MARKETS, FAIRS and FESTIVALS

Deal Farmers’ Market at the Landmark Centre  – the first Saturday of every month. Local producers, seasonal food and stalls.

Weekly Saturday market in the Union Street car park Deal with fresh flowers, plants, produce, furniture, second-hand collectibles and much more.

Antique and Collectors Market with 30 stalls at the Astor Theatre – next ones are on Sunday 19 March and Sunday 16 April  9 am to 3 pm with retro treasures,  vintage clothing, handmade jewellery and more.

AMUSEMENT

Dreamland, the UK’s original pleasure park reimagined, reopened in 2015 with old-fashioned thrills and amusements including helter-skelter, scenic railway, Wedgwood tea cups ride and much more. Opening dates for 2017 to be announced soon.

CASTLES, LIGHTHOUSE and NATURE RESERVES

Dover Castle has lots of events coming up including a Medieval Easter weekend Friday 14 to Sunday 17 April and a WWII weekend Saturday 27  to Monday 29 May. Currently open Wed to Sundays 10am – 4pm.

Deal Castle is open every day over the summer – explore the whole of the castle from the storerooms to the Captain’s residence. Kids will love running through the dark passageways and sitting on the canons. At this time of year, open at weekends only.

At Walmer Castle and Gardens explore the re-imagined Walmer covering the Duke of Wellington’s career, life story and the iconic ‘celebrity’ status he attained during and after his lifetime. For the family, join the Easter Adventure Quest  Friday 14 to Sunday 17 April. Currently open Wed to Sundays 10am – 4pm.

South Foreland Lighthouse – explore the first lighthouse to use electric light, fly kites for free in the grounds and enjoy tea and cake in Mrs Knotts tearoom with its bone china cups and loose leaf tea. Open weekends only until end of March.

Samphire Hoe Nature Reserve is a lovely spot on the coastline and great for a dog walk. There s an exhibition running  ‘Art of the White Cliffs’ on during March. The Reserve is open from 7am to dusk everyday.

ART, MUSEUMS and HISTORY

Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat gallery is well worth a visit and has free family days. Awaiting dates for 2017.

LIVE MUSIC

Live music at the Lighthouse (50 the Strand) – different artists playing Thursdays to Sundays. Try Tyrone’s Famous Reggae Roast on Sundays – booking advisable.

Live theatre at the Astor and other events including  tea dances, films, art exhibitions, comedy, literary events, live theatre and more.

 COOKERY CLASSES for ADULTS and KIDS

Cookery classes including artisan bread making, seafood skills and knife skills coming up at the Chequers Kitchen over the coming months.
